Words of Weakness

Romans 8:26-30

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”

This weekend, I find myself allowing God’s grace to cover me, as He has been revealing what it means to rest in His grace.  I found out last week that His grace is what covers our shortcomings and inadequacies.  God does not take away our deficiencies but says that we must endure with them and allow His grace to be sufficient for us!  When we are weak and can admit to God that we are weak, and can surrender control to Him, then he can show Himself strong and conquer!

So now here I am, looking at another aspect of God’s grace.  As our creator, He also understands that we require maintenance.  In Romans 8, Paul explains another characteristic of God’s grace in that, when we are too weak to pray…

I want to stop there for a second… We have all been in a position, especially me, that we are so stressed, burdened, heavy with what is going on, that we don’t even know what to pray.  We’re exhausted and worn out and we’re sitting there with our Bible and saying (or crying), “God, I can’t do this anymore.  I’m so tired; I don’t even know what to pray?  I can’t see what you’re doing.  I’m frustrated and worn out!”

At that point, we have to allow Romans 8 26 to kick in for us.  See, God’s grace is so great that even at our weakest point, He still has made a way to take care of us.  He allows His Spirit to intercede for us!  Since He knows what we need, He can take over for us!  We can trust Him to do what is best for us and know that His plans and thoughts are higher than ours! (Isaiah 55:9)
When we are weak, He can be strong.  When we don’t know what to say, we don’t have to say anything at all!  And in the end, He will get the glory and we will get the victory!
Be encouraged and know that He is with you and will never abandon you, even at your weakest point! (Heb. 13:5)
